Here you will find links to past and future events at the Rare Music Club in Bristol. The RMC was founded by pianist/composer Keith Tippett in 1992, its aim to give a voice to three areas of non-mainstream music that Keith is passionate about: Avant-garde Jazz/Free Improvisation, Contemporary Classical and Roots/Ethnic music. The added twist is that all these different musics share the stage in triple bill concerts. After a hiatus of five years RMC received funding from the Performing Right Society Foundation and so far in 2001 has managed to stage five excellent concerts in four different Bristol venues. Keith Tippett remains artistic director while his agents, Mind Your Own Music, act as the administration team.


Mind Your Own Music
Mind Your Own Music is an artist management and tour production agency based in Somerset. Janinka Lalomia, who has since been joined by Chris Albury, set up MYOM in 1999 while organizing a European tour for a contemporary Canadian jazz trio called Stich Wynston’s Modern Surfaces. Since then MYOM has felt its way forward little by little and is now somewhat amazed to find that that it is managing a few of the greatest names in contemporary British jazz, namely Keith and Julie Tippett and Mike and Kate Westbrook. MYOM is responsible for all of their numerous current and future projects from solo/duo through to big band. Additionally, MYOM look after the amazing improvising free jazz collective quartet Mujician and the Paul Dunmall Octet, a phenomenal band which utilises all four Mujician members.

MYOM are also European agents for another ‘jazz’ couple, pianist Satoko Fujii and trumpeter Natsuki Tamura from Tokyo. The latter will be less familiar names to UK fans, but these musicians are similarly bonded by their possession of lasting musical creativity that expresses itself in a great range of projects that are unhindered by the vagaries of fashion, category or marketing hype.

MYOM also administer Keith Tippett’s Rare Music Club in Bristol, a possilbly unique informal concert/club concept that puts on occasional mixed genre triple bills of top quality performers from the worlds of contemporary jazz and free improvisation, contemporary and new classical and folk/roots/world music.

Currently MYOM is not looking to take on further artists though it is keeping an open dialogue with Leo Feigin of Leo Records about various artist touring opportunities, and is always interested to hear from like-minded musicians, promoters and agencies about collaborative ideas in UK and abroad.

We send out occasional RMC e-newsletters and are very, very slowly building a website which will cover all the above artists, their tours, concerts, CDs, useful links, etc.
